Overview:
The Spring Challenge Sportive is our opening event of 2012 and promises to be a great one.
Two distances - The 54 Miler & The 64 Miler based on a main route which takes in some of the best scenery and slopes Beds and Herts have to offer. Starting in Shortstown, just south of Bedford you'll head south towards Hammer Hill which kicks in after only a couple of miles - a nice little warm-up! Then it's across to Hitchin and up into the village of Preston. Some great scenery follows as you wind your way through Whitwell (look out for the cress fields) and up the valley into Lilley where you stop, sign in and refuel.
After a fast descent (be careful) down Gravel Hill you'll arrive in Barton where the route splits. The 64 turns left for a lumpy loop including the very steep Sundon Hill at 39 miles then down Sharpenhoe Clapppers (again be careful) and back to Barton to rejoin the main route.
Once into Barton it's homeward bound but it's never flat and there's still plenty to do as you take in Ireland (the village - not the country!) and most of the Beds Road CC 12 loop.
When you arrive they'll be more refreshments and you'll be given a finish time. There's a 7 hour limit on both routes.
